Barn Door Closet Converion
May 2025We recently updated Ryder's room that had had builder-grade closet with sliding doors. I really wanted barn doors, but there wasn't much room on one side of the closet, and I wanted the doors side-by-side and not pass-through mount. I planned it so the barn door track was long enough for both doors to slide to the right so the entire closet is accessible, so one door can slide right or both — and they are small doors and very easy to slide together with the new handles we added. We watched lots of how-tos on how to convert the existing doors. We ended up using 1/4 plywood attached with a nail gun to the front of the door, and also cut strips of the plywood to make a simple more modern barn door pattern. I first stained the entire door, but it looked to plain so I ended up using matte black paint on the panels. Ryder is thrilled with it and we think it is a huge improvement!
